Everyday, I am humbled by the privilege of being a mom. And yet, in the daily cleaning cereal off the floor and regulating sibling arguments, it's so easy to lose sight of the joy of motherhood.
I first picked up a camera when my oldest was a baby because I just didn't want to forget all of his adorable little faces and Im so grateful that I did! Over time, I've realized that as I look at those pictures on our walls, they have served as a visual reminder that family is a gift, no matter how hard the day has been. It's so easy to get lost in the daily struggles of motherhood and lose sight of that. That is why the heart behind Be Thou My Vision Photography is to encourage thankfulness in my clients by providing beautiful portraits for their homes.
When I'm not taking pictures, you'll find me at home doing some of my favorite things: drinking coffee, homeschooling, making a spreadsheet (because how much fun is that!?!?), playing in creeks with my kids, eating ice cream with my husband, vacuuming (yyyaaassss), reading fiction, refilling my coffee cup, or mowing the grass.

A snapshot into my life

I am a BIG believer in letting children learn and experience life through play. Watching their imaginations run wild, seeing what games they'll concoct, or what fabulous crafts they'll create is one of the highlights of my day! Giving my children the opportunity to experience childhood, in all it's wild and free glory, is one of my top priorities and joys.

Call me crazy, but breakfast food is the hands down, the best! Eggs and sausage in the morning? Sure! Crepes with peanut butter and bananas for lunch? OK! Pancakes and bacon for dinner? Of course! Plus, if you eat breakfast all day, you get to drink coffee all day, so it's a win win! Am I right?

I know it's not for everyone, but our family has embraced the life of home education. One of the greatest parts about all of us being home is the sheer amount of time we get to spend together, for better or worse. Getting to pray with my children daily about the world around us, reading and discussing amazing stories from history, doing science projects and investing how our world works, and giving them the freedom to pursue their own interests is one of the greatest privileges of my life. Not every day is "good", but I'm incredibly grateful for the privilege to be their teacher.

Reading with a cup of coffee is how I would spend every day if I could. My favorite genre is historical fiction (WW2 in particular) but I can also get down with some young adult novels/series (Chronicles of Narnia, Harry Potter, Hunger Games). As a mom and teacher, I love watching my children learn about history from the pages of a story and seeing their imaginations ignite. Reading about Pa digging a well in Little House on the Prairie was the inspiration for a week long "well digging" adventure that turned into a big mud pit in my yard,

Hands down, my favorite holiday is Easter. Nothing gets my heart more excited than taking the time to dwell on what it means... that because Jesus died on the cross to bear the punishment that I deserve and then rose, He conquered sin and death. I became a Christian at the age of 19 when I realized that I wanted to be forgiven for the things I had done wrong and trusted in Jesus. I now have true hope for eternal life, where "He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” (Rev 21:4)

Our experience with Be Thou My Vision Photography was fabulous in every way! Jenny asked all the right questions to assure our pictures came out just the way we envisioned. She perfectly captured the personalities of my children and the beauty of the Shenandoah Valley in portraits my family will enjoy and cherish for years to come.

We had family pictures taken by Jenny and to say we are pleased is an understatement. We’ve seen her wonderful work before but our pictures turned out better than we imagined. She was so easy to communicate with beforehand and was extremely easygoing during the shoot. She is a mom so she totally gets it, but because of her tricks the children willingly smiled for her, making it even more enjoyable (and successful)! It was such a quick shoot and we have so many gems to show from it. We cannot recommend her enough! Book your family portraits now!

Jenny recently took photos of our newborn as well as our other small children and she did a wonderful job. She had clever ways of capturing the toddlers' attention while keeping it fun for them. I appreciated that I didn't need to have all of the ideas and poses figured out... she helped with all of it. Now we have plenty of photos of our family and our biggest struggle is choosing which one is best - we love them all!! Thank you, Jenny!
