If you are familiar with Staunton, VA, then you may already be well acquainted with Pufferbellies. An eclectic children’s book and toy shop in Staunton’s historic Wharf District. Owned by mother/daughter team Susan and Erin Blanton, they opened the store back in 2006, and it has been a Staunton mainstay ever since. (Fun fact: their family also owns the famous gelato shop, The Split Banana, Co., right up the street from Pufferbellies!)
A former children’s librarian, Susan focuses on selecting books for the shop while Erin handles the toys.
“Pufferbelly” is a nickname for a steam train, popularized by a children’s folk song. The store’s location was so close to Staunton’s historic train station, so they named the store Pufferbellies as an homage!
