We’re about halfway through the school year, which means it’s time to start thinking about graduation. Whether you’re just starting out at James Madison University or are getting ready to enroll in the final round of classes, it’s important to make sure you get the full JMU experience. Here’s the unofficial-official JMU Bucket List to ensure you can have the best college years ever!

Be Sure To Complete This JMU Bucket List Before Graduation

Get A Picture With Duke Dog

The Duke Dog statue guards the Bridgeforth Stadium right near Newman Lake. The statue is so beloved you’ll find a mini-version across the country at alumni events and weddings. Make sure you get a selfie with our beloved mascot!

Throw Streamers At A Home Football Game

If you’re not going to the home football games, you’re missing out! On top of the cheers and songs, it’s tradition for you to throw a purple or gold streamer in the air anytime the Dukes score a touchdown. The streamers are distributed ahead of the game.

See A Show At The Planetarium

The Planetarium is a hybrid facility that offers free shows every Saturday from early September through May. Grab some friends for this JMU bucket list item and learn more about our galaxy.

Visit the Arboretum

The Arboretum is a serene space with trails so you can stroll past forests, gardens, and other wildlife while taking in the beautiful nature of Virginia.

Take A Picture With The James Madison Statue

While the country might know him as James Madison, we call him Little Jimmy. You can get your picture taken by this 5’4” statue, perfectly modeled after the actual president’s height.

Watch The Sunset From The Isat Patio

The Integrated Sciences Patio Garden offers some of the best scenery around. Check out their gorgeous flowers while getting a one-of-a-kind view of the sunset.

Have A Snowball Fight On The Quad

While The Quad tends to be a peaceful center during the spring, during the winter, it’s a pretty great place to have an unforgettable snowball fight. Grab some mittens and your game face, and battle it out amongst your friends!

Going To Madipalooza Should Be On Everyone’s JMU Bucket List

Madipalooza is an annual music festival throughout the spring with fantastic bands, great food, delicious drinks, and tons of games and activities. Best of all, it’s free

Go To The Blue Hole

The Blue Hole is a swimming hole near Rawley Springs inside the Dry River. The springs are said to be a place of healing, and at the very least, they’ll cure your summertime boredom.

Go Skating At Funkys

Funkys is a fantastic destination for all ages, but the Friday and Saturday night sessions are aimed a little more for adults. Skate rentals are totally free. Come out and dance beneath the disco ball!

Decorate Your Cap For Graduation

Finally, it’s time to decorate your cap. Whether you want to use your favorite sitcom quote, break out some Taylor Swift lyrics, or display an inside joke with your classmates, this is the ideal way to express yourself as you kiss this wonderful college goodbye.
