There’s something about seeing the thermometer rise that makes me yearn for fall. From watching the leaves paint the Shenandoah with their brilliant colors to drinking warm apple cider around a bonfire, autumn is one of the best times of the year. If you dream of cooler days as you sweat this summer, I’d love to tell you about Liberty Mills Farm. While this place is full of summertime activities, their fall schedule makes them the place to be once temperatures dip.
Enjoy the Beautiful Views at Liberty Mills Farm
Liberty Mills Farm is a family farm founded in 2010 by Kent and Evie Woods. The Somerset, Virginia, farm is a short 30-minute drive from Charlottesville. You’ll find it nestled amid the countryside overlooking the Blue Ridge Mountains. The Woods spent a lot of time trying to find the perfect spot for their dreams of practicing sustainable farming while letting families create lovely memories. They found the 50-acre spot and immediately went to work planting produce. Today, the farm opens up around May and has ongoing events until the middle of December. On top of the delicious fruits and veggies at the farm market, the farm has seasonal events your family will adore! You can find them at 9116 Liberty Mills Road.
Products & Services
Liberty Mills opens each year on Memorial Day weekend and celebrates with a Strawberry Fest. During this time, you can pick your own quarts of strawberries, enjoy food from local vendors, and do plenty of fun arts and crafts. The farm brings in tons of vendors to sell local goods and has strawberry-themed treats such as strawberry salsa, strawberry ice cream, and strawberry fudge.
As the year goes on, they shift their focus to flowers. Each summer from June-August, you’ll be able to pick buckets of flowers, see some butterflies, and get lost in their breathtaking sunflower fields.
In September, you can start enjoying their fall activities. They have a huge pumpkin patch where you can take a wheelbarrow and find the perfect carving pumpkins. You can also spend some time navigating the cornfields. The farm has tractor rides and a John Deere-themed play area for younger visitors.
Specialty
Each December, the farm brings Santa Claus for a family photo op. During these “Home for the Holidays” events, you can enjoy hot chocolate, do some arts and crafts, visit the farm market, and check out local vendors. Your child will love getting the chance to meet Santa and pass along their list.
