About Nine Moons Midwifery
Debbie Wong has always had a bit of an adventurer’s spirit. In her twenties, she worked as a park ranger in the Badlands. During this time, she met a visitor that would eventually change her life. The traveler was on her way to providing midwifery care to Lakota families and told Debbie all about the struggles many parents had finding this personalized care. Five years later, Debbie still hadn’t let that chance encounter go. She began to study midwifery, spending time in Oregon apprenticing before going to Mexico and Guatemala to help families there. She moved to Charlottesville in 2010 and worked with Mountain View Midwives. Once that agency closed a year later, she opened Nine Moons Midwifery. It’s been over a decade, and she’s still as passionate as ever about providing exceptional care to Virginia families!
Services
Debbie provides midwifery services for families planning a homebirth. From the very beginning of your pregnancy, she’ll schedule regular appointments where you can have an open and honest conversation regarding your concerns. She’ll check on your progress and provide you with evidence-based information so you can build an informed birth plan. Debbie provides nutritional counseling as well as private childbirth education. She also offers Arvigo Technique Maya Abdominal Therapy.
Debbie provides waterbirths and will assist with the setup. Following your baby’s birth, she’ll guide you through breastfeeding. For the next six weeks, you’ll continue to receive postpartum care until she’s positive you’re on the path to recovery!
Specialty
If home births aren’t really your thing, then you can still count on Nine Moons! Debbie offers doula services so you can have an in-hospital birth while still relying on her calming guidance. You’ll have two prenatal meetings where you’ll discuss what you want for your birth. She’ll provide over-the-phone support throughout the early stages of labor. Once things really get going, she’ll be there! She’ll provide immediate postpartum care, help you figure out breastfeeding, and provide two postpartum visits, including one at the hospital.
