Firstly, the UVA Department of Pediatrics and UVA Children’s Hospital in Charlottesville share a common goal:

  • Enhancing the health and well-being of children and their families through collaborative medical care.
  • Educating professionals dedicated to pediatric healthcare.
  • Providing breakthroughs that improve lives.

The Pediatrics Residency Program offers opportunities for professionals to train in a supportive environment in one of the most livable areas of the country. Medical students provide complex, critical care to their patients.

UVA Children’s Hospital is ranked #1 in Virginia and includes six pediatric specialties ranked among the top 50 nationally in their fields. Moreover, this is one of the best places to receive high-quality, comprehensive medical care for children.

Services

Led by Dr. James Nataro, who came to UVA in 2010, UVA Pediatrics is one of the best pediatric practices in Virginia. Dr. Nataro serves as a physician in chief for UVA Children’s Hospital, chair of the Department of Pediatrics, and an attending physician in pediatric infectious diseases.

UVA Children’s Hospital is one of fewer than 300 US hospitals to be recognized as a Baby-Friendly facility, meeting certain criteria that make it an excellent birth facility for families as they welcome a new baby into the world.

UVA’s Battle Building houses several pediatric outpatient clinics and services. It includes seven floors and 200,000 square feet, housing specialties like primary care, cancer, heart disorders, and pediatric illnesses. Cheerful colors and interactive play areas throughout the building keep kids engaged and comfortable, both in common areas and exam rooms.

The staff cares for infants, children, and adolescents, with special equipment specially designed for treating children. A storytelling theme throughout the building inspires kids to explore and discover through interactive areas.

Pediatric specialties include audiology, cancer, critical care, dentistry, diabetes, digestive health, emergency care, eye care, heart and vascular care, infectious disease, kidney care, neurology, orthopedics, psychiatry, allergy, surgery, urology, and respiratory care.
