About the Harrisonburg Winter Wonderfest
Thanks to the hard work of the HDR organization, Downtown Harrisonburg is thriving. Since 2003, they’ve been working to create events, promotions, and beautification projects to “reactivate the downtown historic district as the economic and social hub of Harrisonburg.” HDR raised over $105 million to reinvest in the city, growing downtown housing, restaurants, and breweries and kickstarting some amazing community events. They’ve helped to put Downtown Harrisonburg back on the map as a true destination rooted in community and pride.
If you’re unfamiliar with Harrisonburg or new to the area, you definitely have to check out the HDR website to learn about everything this beautiful city has to offer. You’ll find a strong community that loves to support local businesses, artists, and artisans, as well as BIPOC-owned businesses.

The holiday season is just around the corner, and there’s no better way to celebrate than by supporting Downtown Harrisonburg by attending Winter Wonderfest! This amazing event partners with downtown retailers and organizations to help bring a little extra magic to the holidays. Plus, this year is bound to be bigger and better than before!
Winter Wonderfest invites visitors to partake in a delightful Sip & Stroll as they meander through Downtown Harrisonburg. Browse the impressive submissions for the Annual Gingerbread House Build-Off and vote for your favorites! Enjoy a relaxing horse-drawn carriage ride through the town, taking in the sights of the holiday decorations. Be sure to stop by and visit Santa and Mrs. Claus, too, and deliver your Christmas list in person! Then, at the end of the day, gather together to watch the annual Holiday Parade with beautiful floats and performances, and top it all off with a grand tree lighting.
