Whether you’re a casual fan or a devoted athlete, checking out the sports at your future school will help you get a better feel for the campus. James Madison University offers students spirited games where they can cheer for The Dukes. About JMU Athletics
James Madison University is a Division I level school with 18 teams playing in the NCAA. Since 2022, most of the teams play within the Sun Belt Conference and are affiliated with the Eastern College Athletic Conference. The department is committed to creating an inclusive space where students can gather and show off their JMU pride. The athletes are dedicated to both academic and personal growth, bringing the same spirit you see on the field into the classrooms. JMU teams have won four NCAA national championships, with one title in field hockey, one in lacrosse, and two in football. You’ll find tons of JMU alumni now playing professionally for NFL, MLB, WNBA, and NBA teams.
Men’s Sports
The JMU Men’s athletics department offers baseball, basketball, football, golf, soccer, and tennis teams. The football games tend to be the most popular, selling out season tickets for Bridgeforth Stadium early in the year. The basketball team plays in the newly renovated Atlantic Union Bank Center, and the baseball team plays at Eagle Field at Veterans Memorial Park. While it’s way more fun to join thousands of fans to watch any of the games, you can check out most of the teams on ESPN2.
Women’s Sports
The Women’s Sports department offers basketball, cross country, field hockey, golf, lacrosse, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, tennis, track and field, and volleyball. The teams are wonderfully vibrant, turning every game into an unforgettable experience. The basketball team shares a court with the men’s team at Atlantic Union. The 2022-2023 season was one of the most inspiring in the team’s history, with them making it to the NCAA tournament after winning the conference tournament.
JMU Athletics Ticket Info for Students
Most of the sports allow you free access to home games. The games that do require tickets allow you to buy directly from JMU Athletics or buy online through SeatGeek. The basketball teams allow group discounts for groups with over 20 people, and children under the age of 6 get free access. Both Atlantic Union and Bridgeforth Stadium have a clear bag policy. Additionally, general parking at Bridgeforth is free, first come, first serve. The school is all about tailgating, opening the lots in the morning, and closing them two hours following the game. Students will have designated parking in the R1 Lot, which they can access with a valid JACard and game tickets for everybody in the vehicle.
